Synopsis:
In Picture of Grace, six-year-old Grace aspires to be an artist like her grandfather Walt, who is under pressure from the greedy gallery owner Delilah Kain to finish his latest masterpiece. When tragedy strikes, Grace learns about art as an expression of love and grief. Picture of Grace features illustrations by Taylor Bills, whose credits include Pat Schwiebert and Chuck DeKlyen’s acclaimed children’s book Tear Soup.

My Thoughts
As an adult it is hard to say good-bye when someone close to us passes away! What can a child possibly be feeling in the same circumstance? I suggest that you read this book before sharing it with a child that has been grieved by the loss of a family member or friend.  If you read along with your child from Picture of Grace by Josh Armstrong, allow time for reflection and ample opportunity to engage with the child as she/he expresses their feelings, if they so desire. You may ask questions about the story and characters to get the conversation flowing. Relating with the character Grace and how she was brave during the tragedy may give comfort to your child as well.

Yes, Picture of Grace by Josh Armstrong is an beautifully inspiring and illustrated story about a six-year-old Grace, that desires to grow up and be an artist just like her Grandpa Walt. But there is much more to this story and that is why I recommend Picture of Grace for any child that has questions about dealing with the passing away of a family member, friend or schoolmate.

"I’m thankful to have the opportunity to share Picture of Grace," says the first-time author. "I hope each reader finds something to enjoy in the book. But most of all, I hope Picture of Grace helps children who are facing a challenge similar to Grace’s — that it inspires to them to remember, honor and stand up for those they love."
