"For anyone interested in growing edible plants, this is a must-have book. The information on herb cultivation is clear, concise, and a pleasure to read. And the recipes will have those who love delicious food heading first for the herb garden and then into the kitchen." - C.L. Fornari, host of GardenLine, and author of Coffee for Roses

It's not too early to begin thinking about planting herbs for this coming season. If you need some advice on what herbs to grow and how to use them in food preparation, then let me share Homegrown Herb Garden by Lisa Baker Morgan and Ann McCormick. Inside this unique book, readers will learn about fifteen popular or not so popular herbs, plus how to harvest and preserve the herbs. In addition, from Section 2: In the Kitchen you can learn to incorporate these herbs into sweet and savory recipes that Chef Ann McCormick shares in the latter part of the book.

Among the list of fifteen herbs, my favorites are chives, parsley, mint and rosemary. I am not so familiar with bay laurel, chervil and winter savory. Each of the herbs featured share the basics, common varieties, care and feeding, growing in small spaces, growing and harvesting along with Did You Know? section. Chef McCormick provides guidance in how to prepare the herbs,  discusses flavors and paring the herbs and much more. I look forwards to incorporating them into new recipes like French Tarragon Potato Salad;  Spaghetti with Chunky Tomato, Olive, and Mint Sauce; and My Nutty, Chocolaty Rosemary Cookies. I hope to learn plenty about growing, harvesting and storing these herbs, too.
