Tracie Long Longevity Series: Staying Power DVD

Coming Tuesday, April 8, 2014

As previously mentioned at Loving Heart Designs - I am reviewing all three Tracie Long "Longevity" Series DVDs. Staying Power is the second DVD in this new series from Shelter Island.

Staying Power features medium to high-powered cardio using the medicine ball along with hi-rep light weight conditioning. Staying Power combines these two together to work your shoulders, core, hips, glutes, inner and outer thighs. Your heart gets pumping, you break a good sweat and it helps you get more fit and trim.

Are you ready to workout? Well, I tried Staying Power for the first time on Wednesday, February 26, 2014. I enjoyed learning the new cardio exercises. I used a Medicine Ball for the first time too.(8 lbs) If you have not worked out in a few months and are a beginner with weight and cardio training I recommend that you watch the DVD then perform without the weights until you get the routine memorized.

Drawing with Mark! DVD SRV: $14.98

Drawing with Mark: Reach for the Stars! and A Day with the Dinosaurs DVD Series

Let's join along with Mark Marderosian as we spend a day at the Museum of Science in Boston, Massachusetts.  Mr. Marderosian begins the first episode teaching us about the planets, stars and outer space! You can learn to draw a friendly astronaut and the planets. The bonus segment teaches how to draw a space ship. The second episode takes us back to the Museum of Science where we learn some dinosaur facts and then we head back to the attic to draw a Pterodactyl and Tyrannosaur Rex dinosaur.

Each of the two Drawing with Mark episodes are about thirty minutes long. They gear the programs for ages 5 and up but it's great fun for the entire family. Each episode ends with a reading list guide. One of the coolest things is you can stop each lesson so your youngster can catch up if they miss something. With each special field trip your child learns new facts about the topic of each program.

February is Heart Disease Awareness Month, Why Not Keep Your Child's Lunch Heart Healthy with PlanetBox?

February is Heart Disease Awareness Month, Why Not Keep Your Child’s Lunch Heart Healthy with PlanetBox?

February is Heart Disease Awareness Month.  The Mayo Clinic's top two recommendations for a heart healthy diet are:

                  -Control your portion size

                  -Eat more fruits and veggies

And that's exactly what packing your lunch in a PlanetBox® will help you do!
Now how do we control portion size?

The easiest way to reduce portion size is to pack your lunch in a Planet Box® lunch box.  The small, segmented containers in their bento box design are the best way to pack delicious, portion-sized meals on the go, all while being health and environmentally conscious.

How do we encourage your child to eat more fruits and veggies?

Adding lots of fruits and vegetables to your diet will help your child have a healthy heart .They keep you feeling full for longer than processed food so you won't even feel the need to eat loads. They are also low calorie and contain fiber. Planet Box® lunchboxes encourage diverse additions of fruits and vegetables to your meals with plenty of segmented containers to add everything from snap peas to raspberries.

Fun Fact: Apples are a great heart healthy snack, because they contain flavonoids. Flavonoids promote heart health by reducing platelet adhesion in arteries, lowering cholesterol, and relaxing and dilating arteries

About Planet Box:

Packing a healthy lunch that your child will actually eat is a sore subject for many parents.  How do you pack a lunch that is nutritionally sound, diverse, and appealing to your little one? How do you protect your children from the harmful effects of plastic but keep food from “touching”? We introduce you to the Planet Box®.

Fortunately, PlanetBox® has streamlined this daunting morning task of packing your child’s lunch. Lunch can be packed into a functional, eco-friendly line of lunch boxes that are appealing, simple to pack, easy to wash and safe from the harmful effects of plastic.

The bento-box style of PlanetBox lunchboxes was inspired by co-founders Robert Miros, an engineer and industrial designer, and his wife Caroline, a children’s health educator.  They craved something that was one piece, but had separate compartments to keep foods neat and fresh.  It needed to be easy to open and close—especially for little fingers—as well as easy to clean.  They wanted it to be durable enough to last for years to come, but still modern and stylish to stay fresh and current.

This spring, start a new trend with a lunch box that keeps food fresh and your children excited to sit down for their mid-day meal.

 My Thoughts

I love sharing new and not-so-new artist with my readers, especially for the whole family.  Music is like the air we breathe - a necessity! Plus, I think our children are trying grow up too quickly. I want them to have fun and enjoy being a kid. Having mom and dad sing songs together can create wonderful memories and great bonding times together.

Laura Doherty is another wonderful children's recording artist that has poured her heart into every song. You may be familiar with her previous recordings: Shining Like A Star and Kids in the City.  In a Heartbeat was released just before Valentine's Day 2014 and features her acoustic folk-pop talent along with some jazz-blues mix. In A Heartbeat has thirteen fun songs that touch on the topics of growing up, shyness, love and more. (34 minutes) She is joined by several big talented Chicago musicians: Cat Tager, Rob Newhouse, Andrew Wilkins and Glenn Kotche. She has performed hundreds of concerts at festivals and venues. She is an award winning producer, too.

In A Heartbeat Song List:

1. I'm a Little Fish
2. Bicycle
3. Jazzasarus(concert characters)
4. Heartbeat
5. Butterfly
6. Drum Kit
7. Domingo the Flamingo (concert characters)
8. It's OK To Be Shy
9. Breakfast Gives Me Energy
10. Electric Guitar
11. Woolly Woolly Bear
12. Paper Moon

American Heroes #4 CD by Jonathan Sprout

American Heroes #4 by Jonathan Sprout CD  SRV $12.97

Grammy® Nominee Jonathan Sprout’s Latest AMERICAN HEROES #4
The Award-Winning (15 So Far) Series Continues

Just arrived... Tuesday, February 11th, 2014!

(Southampton, PA )  Look!  Up in the sky!  It’s a bird! It’s a plane!  It’s … Samantha Smith.  Who?  Not all heroes are Superman. Most are ordinary people doing extraordinary things.  Many are known the world over but many live down the street quietly doing something great.
But all have accomplished things that deserve to be celebrated, praised – and set to music.  This is where Jonathan Sprout shines.

Jonathan Sprout

American Heroes #4 is Jonathan’s fourth musical commemoration of the words and deeds of some of the best among us. If you think history can’t be fun, take a look and listen to the ten heroes children will meet:  26th President of the United States?  That’s Teddy Roosevelt and he’s here.  Have you heard of green eggs and ham?  You have if you are Sam I Am – or Dr. Seuss.  Wild hair and E=mc²?  Albert Einstein – you’re a genius.  America’s first great Latin baseball superstar and humanitarian?  Roberto Clemente, of course.  Seen any magical movies that tickle your child and the child in you?  Thank Walt Disney.  Do you live in Pennsylvania – or know where it is?  That would be William Penn’s doing.  The first black woman to serve as a presidential advisor?  Not Condoleeza Rice – Mary McLeod Bethune.  When girls don the green scouting uniform and sash do they think of Juliette Gordon Low?  They should.  Who can we thank when we breathe pure air and drink clean water?  We can start with Rachel Carson.  Which brings us to Samantha Smith.  A ten year old girl who wrote to, and later visited, the leader of the Soviet Union in pursuit of peace.  Now that’s powerful.

American Heroes #4 has a big, bold sound – pop, rock, Latin and gospel rhythms; strong, vibrant lead vocals; full, expressive background vocals. The remarkable choices of instrumentation and production make a statement: this CD is a party about HEROES!  It is so chock full of whimsy, humor and funny touches woven throughout (such as the gimcracks, gewgaws and vaudeville sounds of “Dr. Seuss”) that you discover something new every time you listen.  Jonathan does a staggering amount of research for each song making history not only come alive for children, he makes it sing!

American Heroes #3 was nominated for a Grammy® Award.  The first three CD's in the series have won a total of 15 awards including Parents’ Choice, NAPPA, Film Advisory Board Award of Excellence, Dove, iParenting Media, Creative Child, Dr. Toy, Mom’s Choice and Family Choice.  This is Jonathan’s tenth recording.

Jonathan has performed more than 5,000 concerts and songwriting workshops for children.  His recordings and concerts have earned critical acclaim as groundbreaking entries in the field of educational children’s music.

My Thoughts

Track List:

1. Unstoppable (Juliette Gordon Low)
2. Come with Me! (William Penn)
3. E=mc2 (Albert Einstein)
4. Hall of Fame (Roberto Clemente)
5. Man in the Arena (Theodore Roosevelt)
6. Through the Eyes of a Child (Walt Disney)
7. Powerful (Samantha Smith)
8. Dr. Seuss (Theodore Seuss Geisel)
9. Interconnected(Rachel Carson)
10. Heads, Hearts, and Hands (Mary McLeod Bethune)
11. I See a Hero

You can subscribe to Jonathan Sprouts mailing list to receive a newsletter that shares free song samples and concert information. Jonathan Sprout's website shares various links: book a concert, parent/teacher resources, photo gallery, song writing workshops and more.

You can purchase his music from Amazon, CDBaby.com, Kidzmusic.com and Songs for Teaching

My Thoughts

It's fun to sing songs with Jonathan Sprout! His newest release is called American Heroes #4. He sings songs about heroes like Walt Disney, Dr. Seuss, Theodore Roosevelt, Juliette Gordon Low, Albert Einstein, Rachel Carson and many others. American Heroes #4 will have your kids dancing and singing.

One of my favorite songs is Unstoppable about one of my heroes, Juliette Gordon Low.  She is the creator of Girls Scouts of USA. When I was a young girl I was in the Girls Scouts as a Brownie.  I also grew up in Georgia, the same state that she is from.

I am sure you will pick your favorite heroes from American Heroes #4. If your child is unfamiliar with some of the heroes it offers as a great learning opportunity. I think it could be time to visit the local library! American Heroes #4 is a great addition to our home-school library.

My Thoughts

Guess How Much I Love You springs from best-selling books by Sam McBratney. They are beautifully illustrated by Anita Jeram. The main characters are Little Nutbrown Hare, his father - Big Nutbrown Hare and many of their woodland friends. The series teaches valuable life lessons that deal with friendship, sharing, tolerance, promise keeping, taking responsibility, forgiveness and more.

And the NEW Guess How Much I Love You ~ The Adventures of Little Nutbrown Hare:  Friendship Adventures DVD features seven charming episodes: (Shown on Disney Junior)

  • Favorite Thing
  • Fly Away Home
  • Follow Me
  • I Promise
  • All Fall Down
  • New Friend
  • Leaf Shade

Of the seven episodes featured we like "Favorite Thing", "Leaf Shade" and "All Fall Down". "Favorite Thing" shares the importance of taking care of things that we borrow from our friends.  "Leaf Shade" focuses on the important lesson of sharing. And, "All Fall Down" teaches that's it is okay to be different. (tolerance)

I love how each episode ends with the "Guess How Much I Love You" question between Big Nutbrown Hare and his son, Little Nutbrown Hare.

All of the episodes offer wonderful lessons that are highly important for healthy growth in childhood. Guess How Much I Love You is my top pick for this years children's programming.

My Time with Grandma Bible Storybook is written by Phil A. Smouse. Mr. Smouse is an accomplished writer, illustrator, and graphic artist. He has written over forty children and adult books, including God Calling for Kids, 365 Bible Promises for Little Hearts, I Can Read God's Word and many more. He loves to write and illustrate bible based stories for children. He and his wife live in Pennsylvania with their two children and beautiful granddaughter.

Ela Jarzabek is a talented artist and illustrator from Poland. She is a recent graduate from the Academy of Fine Arts in Krakow. She has been creating her own stories and illustrating them ever since she was a small child. She continues to work as a freelance illustrator. She loves creating animals and princesses.

My Time with Grandma Bible Storybook is a wonderful way to connect with the grandchild or grandchildren in your life. Each of the fifteen stories are short and easy to understand for younger children. The illustrator makes the stories come alive with the cute illustrations. The Love Note from Grandma and the Love Note from God help tie up the story with thought provoking questions that get your grandchild more involved.  The Love Note from God is a simplified version of a Bible verse to bring it all to a close.

This Bible storybook is written for ages two to five. It is a great read-a-loud for an older child like my eight year old daughter. She smiled as she read it to me. She loved the beautiful illustrations featured throughout the storybook. I look forwards to reading My Time with Grandma Bible Storybook when my grandchildren visit with me. The stories are short and to the point which allows for the shorter attention span of younger children. It only takes a few seconds to make lasting loving memories. Sharing the Love of God generation after generation is a beautiful blessing we should all want to pass on.

Phil A. Smouse has many wonderful children's Bibles, devotionals and books that are great to share with your child or grandchild.

When & Why to Change Spark Plugs?

When & Why Replace Spark Plugs?

Warnings Signs to Check Spark Plugs:

1. Engine makes a rough idle sound
2. Car has trouble starting
3. Radio Interference
4. The engine misfires
5. Engine hesitation
6. Vehicles consumes high fuel
7. Poor Acceleration

First of all, what are spark plugs? Spark Plugs are important to keep your car traveling up and down the road. Spark Plugs work with the motor to provide a spark to ignite the air and fuel mixture within the cylinders.  Regularly check your spark plugs, clean and change when necessary to prevent problems with your automobiles engine. If any of the warning items listed above are happening it could cause serious problems for your vehicle down the road and major headaches.

As you know, each vehicle differs in the recommendation for when to change the spark plugs. Ford recommends changing your spark plugs every 100,000 miles. You should check your car manual for your particular make and model of car.

Many of you can head to your local auto parts shop or online to purchase spark plugs at a reasonable price and make repairs as needed without help from a car dealer or auto repair shop. It is cheaper if you can do it yourself but you will need a few tools. The auto parts dealer can help you find the exact spark plugs for your vehicle and suggests essential tools to aid in the repair like a feeler gauge. If the thought of maintaining your own car frightens you, then seek a reputable mechanic or dealership in your hometown. Seriously, it was hard for my husband to get inside of our Mercury Mountaineer to remove several of the plugs. It is not always such a tight spot for many automobiles. He successfully removed and replaced all six plugs. (Est. Cost under $6.00 each) We have noticed a savings at the gas pump already. Before the idle issues arrived we had our air filter replaced during a regular oil change but the idle and shut off have not stopped. We will have to replace the Massive Air Flow Sensor(MAF) ourselves or have it repaired at a local garage. (This is an expensive procedure of nearly $400.)

Motorcraft®  & Bosch Platinum Spark Plugs
As you can see in the images above we had previously used Motorcraft Spark Plugs
and successfully exchanged them for the Bosch Platinum +4. You can find many popular brands
like Bosch, Denso, Champion and others from most auto part stores. You may find helpful
do-it-yourself videos online from sites like YouTube or other automobile maintenance sites.

If problems still occur even after changing your spark plugs, please seek professional advice.
