Wycliffe USA Engages Children in Bible Translation with Updates to Popular ‘Around the World with Kate & Mack’ Book
New edition provides ‘A Look at Languages from A to Z,’ exposes children to different cultures and teaches importance of Bible literacy and translation
(ORLANDO, FLA.) – Oct. 21, 2014 – Wycliffe Bible Translators USA, the largest Scripture translation organization in the world, today released a new edition of its popular children’s book, “Around the World with Kate & Mack: A Look at Languages from A to Z.” The book launch coincides with new child-friendly displays in Wycliffe USA’s Orlando Discovery Center and web-based activities for children on the new Wycliffe.org website.
“Around the World” is an updated version of the Wycliffe classic children’s book, “From Akebu to Zapotec: A Book of Bibleless Peoples,” which has sold more than 30,000 copies. In “Around the World,” Kate, a fictionalized missionary kid, and Mack, her precocious parrot, take readers on a globe-trotting adventure, introducing children to a new language and culture for each letter of the alphabet, from Arop (Papua New Guinea) to Zinza (Tanzania). With more than 100 pages of photographs, colorful illustrations and fun facts, “Around the World” is a perfect introduction to Bible translation for children of all ages.
“‘Around the World’ is a great way for children and their parents to learn about Bible translation occurring all over the world,” said Kathy Zoetewey, associate director of education services. “Along with the launch of kid-focused displays in the Discovery Center and downloadable activities on the recently re-launched Wycliffe.org website, our children’s lessons are as strong as they have ever been, and we’re excited to continue finding innovative ways to get kids interested in and involved with Bible translation.”
“Around the World” also directs children to a special section of the recently re-launched Wycliffe USA website (www.wycliffe.org/a-z) where they can play games and access additional content that aligns with the book. New displays at the Wycliffe Discovery Center provide hands-on learning experiences where children and adults can encounter people, language and cultures from around the world and learn more about the art and science of Bible translation.
“We know the last Bible translator is alive somewhere in the world today,” said Bob Creson, president and CEO of Wycliffe USA. “He or she very well may be a child who develops a passion for Scripture translation by reading ‘Around the World with Kate & Mack.’”
“Around the World with Kate & Mack” is available online at http://shop.wycliffe.org and in the Village Shop at Wycliffe USA’s Orlando headquarters.
