Count Your Blessings

Count Your Blessings :)

 Malvaviscus arboreus var. drummondii(Mallow Family)

Eureka! I found it! These beautiful red spiraling beauties are Malvaviscus Arboreus from the hibiscus family. You may be more familiar with other names: Bleeding Hearts, Scotchman's Purse, Ladies Teardrop, Marzapan, Mexican Apple, Turk's Turban, Turkcap, and Wax Mallow. (Drummond's Turkscap)  Origin is Yucat√°n region of Mexico but they thrive in Southeastern United States, South America and Central America. This variety was named for Thomas Drummond(naturalist) born in Scotland ca. 1790 - 1835.  Hummingbirds love them!

And, this variety is edible. :)
