The Maison Sajou Sewing Book by Lucinda Ganderton

THE MAISON SAJOU SEWING BOOK SRV:$30 US

Surrey, UK—March 2014. From bed linens and tablecloths to book covers and monograms, The Maison Sajou Sewing Book (Gibbs Smith, $30.00 U.S. • Hardcover, 7 3⁄4 x 10 1⁄2 in, 192 Pages, 30 Color Photographs, 200 Illustrations, March 2014, 978-1-4236-3490-4) presents twenty embroidery projects designed to bring refined French style into your home. With straightforward step sequences, patterns, and templates, even the most novice sewer will find pleasure in the delicate embroidery of monograms, pointelle borders, and drawn threadwork.

Maison Sajou was founded in 1828 by Jacques-Simon Sajou and dominated the French embroidery market for years. The design of both packaging and goods was exquisitely detailed and elaborate, representing the best of French craftsmanship. Some years ago, many of the famed materials, from threads and ribbons to linens and silks, were brought back into production for today’s stitchers. The Maison Sajou Sewing Book celebrates this resurgence of these fine materials.

Crafters will delight in refresher projects that will sharpen their sewing skills until they are ready to tackle more intricate designs with ease. While the sophisticated design of these projects recall a time when embroidery was an everyday activity for many women, even the most intricate of projects in this book will only take hours, rather than days.

My Thoughts

Once the weather warms up each summer, we enjoy loading up the car and taking the kids to the coast for a day trip. It would be grand to have a new beach tote like the Summer Tote Bag with the breezy, seaside theme from the Maison Sajou Sewing Book. This tote is made from striped fabric and features nautical motifs of a red, white and black light house, a sailboat, anchor and other maritime designs.

The Maison Sajou Sewing Book features over twenty stunning and simplistic embroidery projects, thirty colorful photographs, two hundred illustrations in one exquisite, hardcover book that is inspired by the nineteenth century French haberdashery. There is something for every level of ability. Each exquisite design brings sophistication to simple stitch-work. The results are exquisite.

Included is the Techniques section that shares a Basic Sewing Kit, Materials and Sewing Techniques, Embroidery, Cross-stitch, Needlepoint, Outline and Border Stitches, and Isolated Stitches."
