Roger Day's Marsh Mud Madness

Any May Day Is Mud Day!
Roger Day's
Marsh Mud Madness
New Music DVD Introduces Kids to Coastal Ecology through Songs and Video
Available on May 21st

Marsh Mud Madness Roger Day SRV $15

Watch Roger and kids singing "I Love To Study Mud," HERE.

Nashville—Roger Day, one of the nation’s top touring family music artists, will release a new music and educational DVD, Marsh Mud Madness, on May 21 (Bigkids.com, CDBaby.com and Rogerday.com, $15).

Produced by the Savannah Music Festival and Roger Day, with support from the Georgia Sea Grant and the Courtney Knight Gaines Foundation, the video features engaging information about the plants and animals that make up the Atlantic coastal ecosystem, interspersed with Day performing 12 original songs about goopy mud, fascinating coastal animals and the waters and plants of the marsh itself, in front of a live audience of thousands of kids.
In fact, over the past two years, more than 30,000 children in several states have learned about the Atlantic marshland ecology via Roger’s Marsh Mud Madness songs.

Three years in the making, this video began in 2009 when Roger spent five days exploring Sapelo Island, a barrier island south of Savanna, GA. There, he learned about the fragile ecosystem from scientists at the University Georgia Marine Institute. Georgia Sea Grant sponsored the visit, and they commissioned Day to compose a program of songs about the Georgia coast for elementary school audience. While watching turtles nest and trekking through the maritime forest, Day wrote a song cycle about the importance of habitat and watershed health, the abundance of creatures that depend on the state’s water resources and how individuals can help protect the coastal eco-system.
He first performed the songs at the Savannah Music Festival in 2011, visiting schools in the area and working with educator Jennifer Cole to develop a curriculum, available now for free. The full-length educational music video grew out of both the natural and performance experiences.

“You’ve heard about boots on the ground? Well, this was boots in the mud! I lived every word of these songs.” quips Day, who has trouble extricating himself from the marshy muck in at least one scene.

In addition to his extensive school and music festival performances in Savannah in 2011, Day performed songs from Marsh Mud Madness at the LA Times Festival of Books and in Charlotte at several school events last month.  This fall, Day will also release a new album featuring the songs from Marsh Mud Madness.  “My hope is that through these songs, kids will learn to love the Atlantic coast and its creatures,” Day says. ”Once people love something, they’ll take care of it.”

Roger Day is a Nashville based musician who regularly tours all around the country, from festivals and schools to major performing arts centers. The former camp counselor, Eagle Scout and father of three has won numerous awards and acclaim. His most recent CD release is Why Does Gray Matter? – his second Parents’ Choice® Gold Award winner – with songs about the brain. Day’s music has been compared to Schoolhouse Rock, and this new video features his trademark, hooky pop sound and genial, kid-friendly personality. For more information and his latest tour details, visit www.rogerday.com.

My Thoughts

I just got Roger Day's Marsh Mud Madness CD in the mail and wanted to get the information posted for all the blog readers. Pleased to Meet You by Key Wilde and mr Clarke

"Angry alligators always arguing"
"Bigga bagga bigga bagga, bulla pigga bigga boom"
"Lumpy plumpy diddley dumpy, rabbit sitting on his rumpy"
Key Wilde and Mr Clarke Greet Listeners
with 15 Whimsical and Witty New Tunes
Pleased To Meet You
Available May 21

Watch Key Wilde's animated video for "Animal Alphabet"

New York, May 2013 ~ Key Wilde and Mr Clarke will release their highly anticipated second family music album, Pleased To Meet You. Whether you were "Raised by Trolls" or you'd like to meet the "Lazy Raisins" or "Eggplant Man," you will travel on a fantastical adventure with this  critically acclaimed and musically eclectic duo.

Grammy winning producer Dean Jones added new levels of musical complexity and interest as producer of this new collection of 15 original songs, which will be available anywhere music is sold, on May 21 ($15, Burnside Distribution).

Pleased To Meet You reflects Key Wilde and Mr Clarke’s musical versatility, which can skillfully move from rockers like the title track and “Bigga Bagga” to quieter tunes like the bluegrassy “Chuckers” and the ukulele lullaby (tinged with toy piano), “Falling Star.” Most of the songs on Pleased To Meet You are originals, the result of the duo’s offbeat and wide-ranging musical sensibilities. The “Railroad Medley” is a lively arrangement of well-loved train songs, and “Candyman” is a sweetly acoustic and child-friendly version of the Reverend Gary Davis blues classic. “Eggplant Man” exemplifies the Key Wilde and Mr Clarke sensibility, using creative rhyming and word play to tell the story about a “lumpy grumpy” gardener trying to stop the wily John the Rabbit from munching away at his vegetables. Each song evokes vibrant imagery, and the CD packaging featuring Wilde’s illustrations helps tell each little musical tale.

Key Wilde and Mr Clarke are planning a summer of family concerts to celebrate the release, including all-ages shows at ArtsQuest Steel Stacks in PA on June 29th and Union Square in NYC on July 25th.

About Key Wilde and Mr Clarke

Key Wilde and Mr Clarke are known for their wildly imaginative, whimsically narrative songwriting and distinctive harmonic sound. Their 2009 release Rise and Shine won a Parents’ Choice GOLD Award, and their EPs Hey, Pepito! and Happy Holidays attracted national acclaim and radio play. Their kid-friendly and sophistically funny songs get regular rotation on SiriusXM’s Kids Place Live and WXPN FM’s Kids Corner radio, among many other shows nationwide.

At theaters including Symphony Space to World Café Live and at more informal venues including Kindiefest and the NYC summer parks series, the dynamic duo delivers their whimsical story-songs with involving, visually dynamic performances.
Critics love their “farm-funk sound, as fresh as it is entertaining” (Cookie magazine) whose music “will lift kids’ spirits in the morning, or anytime” (Parenting magazine). As Dadnabbit /Popdose notes,“Key Wilde and Mr. Clarke don’t pander with their arrangements, which are stripped-down,folk-flavored, and often totally rockin’ in the bargain — not to mention catchy, too.” And Parents’ Choice simply says that the duo create “clever, laugh-out-loud lyrics, from musicians who clearly enjoy their work.”

The duo began their musical collaboration in the 1990s in New York, honing their antifolk repertoire and tight harmonies. Wilde, now the father of two children, grew up in Texas and has built a reputation not only for his music but also for his illustrations, which have appeared in newspapers, magazines, Avanti greeting cards and children’s books. Mr Clarke was born in the U.K., grew up in France and has lived in New York since the 1980s. Currently a high school science and special education teacher, he hones his performance skills before the toughest audience on the planet—adolescents—by blowing things up in front of the classroom. “It does get their attention,” he quips.

My Thoughts

The NIV real-life Devotional Bible for Women is a beautiful hard cover Bible with 366 days of devotionals by more than two dozen faithful women from the Proverbs 31 Ministries. The introduction shares both the Old and New Testament Books of the Bible followed by a listing in alphabetical order. You can learn more about the NIV version of the Holy Word. You can learn more about each of the authors and contributing writers along with their devotionals listed in the rear of the book. Also, included is the Topical Index and Table of Weights and Measures pages to help you learn more about the text.

It feels good to know that when I want to read a devotional there is no pressure to begin with Day 1, Day 2 and so on. With the recent passing of my step-father I have been concerned about my siblings. I simply refer to the Topical Index and find the word "siblings". There are three devotionals pertaining to siblings of which one talks about sibling rivalry.  I start the day by reading "Run the Right Race" a story about sisters Rachel and Leah written by Rachel Olsen located on page thirty-seven in the Old Testament book of Genesis chapter 29.  Also, I find encouraging words about sibling rivalry, a Bible verse to meditate on and follow up verses to explore.

I recommend reading the new NIV real-life Devotional Bible for Women if you seek and want to grow deeper in your spiritual walk with the Lord Jesus Christ. Reading devotionals from the new NIV real-life Devotional Bible for Women offers encouragement which feeds my spirit on a daily basis. This devotional Bible would be a great gift to share with family or friends. What a special gift idea for and upcoming birthday or holiday!

As an added blessing, with every New International Version(NIV) Bible purchase you help Biblica (www.biblica.com) translate the Word of God and provide free Bibles to people in need all around the world.

Three Things to Consider About Keeping Candy in Your Emergency Food Storage by Lee Flynn

Sweet Tooth

Things to Consider About Keeping Candy in Your Emergency Food Storage

If you have small children, you know how important it is to keep them healthy. Lots of good exercise, plenty of sleep, and regular doctor checkups are all key to keeping your child happy, hale, and hearty. Ensuring proper child nutrition is also a must for any parent. Meals should be well balanced and low in fat, while snacks should be wholesome and filling. Above all, foods high in sugar should always be avoided.
Well, maybe not always. Keeping a bit of candy in your food storage is actually not a bad idea. After all, your young ones are going to be stuck in a situation very different from what they are used to. They’re going to be scared and anxious, and they’ll need something to console them. A little comfort food is just the ticket. Psychological foods, or foods that taste good and offer an emotional catharsis, might just be the difference between a relatively pleasant emergency, and sanity shattering pandemonium. Here are some tips on keeping candy in your food storage.

1. Shelf life

Depending on what kind of candy you plan on storing, you might have to rotate it out somewhat regularly. Lighter chocolates, like milk and white chocolate, should be replaced every six to nine months. Dark chocolate can be stored significantly longer; approximately two years under ideal circumstances. Non-chocolate can usually be kept for about a year. Always store candy in a cool, dry place, and try to keep it in the original packaging whenever possible.

2. Type

Obviously, the kind of candy you store is completely dependent upon your personal tastes. But even if you have an all-time favorite sweet that you think you’d be happy to eat until the sun burns out, you should still try to store a variety. Have you ever stocked up on a certain kind of candy (let’s say for Halloween, for example), only to find yourself with more of it left over than you had intended? No problem, you might think, I’ll just eat it myself. However, familiarity breeds contempt. The more you have of something, the less special it becomes. And so the candy that you thought you’d love ends up just sitting there uneaten. This can easily happen with storage candy too, and you’ll thank yourself later if you plan for it.

3. How much

So now that you’ve decided on what types of candy to use, and how best to preserve them, you need to figure out how much to store. Now, there’s no way for exact numbers to be communicated here. Your family might be large or small, and every disaster lasts a different amount of time. Likewise, you don’t want candy taking up valuable space that should be used for necessities. A large, 40 oz bag of mixed candies, such as you might find at a grocery store should probably be enough to get you and your family through the crisis, but use your own judgment. If you think that you’ll need more, then just remember that too much candy can give kids stomach aches, and that’s a problem that even comfort food can’t solve.

As a freelance writer, Lee Flynn is dedicated to helping others develop their personal preparedness.

My Thoughts

My youngest daughter enjoyed  watching "The Other Side" by Jacqueline Woodson; illustrated by E. B. Lewis. She loved the idea that two young girls of different races could over look racial issues of the day to become great friends. I believe this story was intriguing to her because we live in a multiracial neighborhood.

"Cat and Canary" by Michael Foreman (author/illustrator) was the story she wanted to view first because she loves animals especially cats. This charming story is about an unlikely friendship between a bird and a cat. What do your pets do when you are away at school or work? Giggles.

Bink & Gollie

There are two more delightful stories: "Bink & Gollie" by Dicamillo and McGhee and "A Sick Day for Amos McGee" by Philip C. Stead/Illustrated by Erin Stead. All of the stories are about friendships.

"Bink & Gollie" is a wonderful DVD collection to share with children to help encourage new friendships.
