Glamorous Girls Bible

Are you looking for the perfect gift for the special tween in your life? If so, why not consider the iShine Bible a New Living Translation(NLT) by Tyndale House Publishers, Inc. The iShine Bible for girls is beautifully designed with multiple lovely images that are both feminine and stylish. iShine is light and conveniently sized at 4 1/2 x 6 1/8 to fit in any purse, tote, backpack, etc. Trust me, you won’t break a sweat carrying it around.

The iShine Bible consists of both the Old and New Testament books of the Holy Bible. There are special themes: “What is the Bible?”, “Finding Your Identity in Jesus”, Growing in Faith”, and “The Bible Talks about”. Immersed throughout the iShine Bible your Tween will learn that they are a V.I.P. in God’s eyes by reading the Value, Identity and Purpose sections. At the conclusion of the iShine Bible you will find “Great Chapters of the Bible”, “Great Stories of the Bible” and “Great Verses of the Bible to Memorize”. An interesting option is that the iShine Bible has added Smartphone features that prompts your Tween to learn more about iShine and the iShine Bible through viewing videos online.

The iShine is a cool Bible for Tweens. I hope you will consider learning more about it. My only con is that the text size is much too small. My teenagers had a hard time being able to see the verse numbers along with the actual verses. This could be a problem when it comes to straining the ole’ eyes.

iShine seems to be a perfect book for those looking for a small, stylish bible with features relating to helping out tweens with difficult questions revolving around their life. Other than that, rest assured the Bible will always be the Bible; just now it’s in pink!

My Thoughts

Several of my favorite stories were The Pilgrims of Plimoth and The Journey of The One &Only Decaration of Independence.  I thoroughly enjoyed the interview with author Nikki Giovanni.  She wrote the story “Lincoln and Douglass: An American Friendship. “John, Paul, George & Ben” was a comical story. The author illustrator Lane Smith shares a glimpse into the lives of each of these youth by showing how they may have grown up to be the great men of their time. Truthfully, I enjoyed all of the stories and I believe Lincoln and Douglas: An American Friendship on DVD to be a wonderful addition to any home or public library. I hope you will check it out soon.

My Thoughts

My children and I enjoyed watching and learning about Duke Ellington, Ella Fitzgerald, John Henry and the many other important African American figures in U.S. history.

As a child Duke Ellington dreaded practicing on the piano. He gave it up! But one day he heard the piano with new senses. The handsome Duke became one of the most famous jazz musician and composers ever.

Ella Fitzgerald: The Tale of Vocal Virtuosa was written by Andrea Davis Pinkney. You may not believe it but Ella started out dancing before she became a popular vocalist. She was one bright and shining star.

In the story of Ellington Was Not a Street, the author pays tribute to many influential and talented African American figures like Dizzy Gillespie, the Clovers, Sonny Til and many more.

John Henry comes to life in infamous folk tale ballad written by Julius Lester. You may have read or seen stories written about John Henry before but this one has a different twist to it. As usual, the illustrators have out done themselves.

The Snowy Day by Ezra Jack Keats

The Snowy Day by Ezra Jack Keats
The Snowy Day by Ezra Jack Keats

Recently, we received The Snowy Day by Ezra Jack Keats from the Ferst Foundation for Childhood Literacy. The Snowy Day is a simple story with fun illustrations about a young boy named Peter whom spends a wonderful day playing in the snow, making snow angels, snowmen and much more!

Ezra Jack Keats has even more popular books for children like "Whistle for Willie" and "Clementina's Cactus". Look for more stories by Ezra Jack Keats in your local library or bookstore.

Also, check your library for more winter stories like "Snow Bears" by Martin Waddell, "Snow" by Manya Stojik, and "Bear Snores On" by Karma Wilson. Reading books with shared thems like winter or snow can be loads of fun.

Ole Xtreme Wellness Tortillas: Tomato Basil Spinach Tortilla Wrap Recipe

Ole Xtreme Wellness Tortillas

Eating a low carbohydrate snack or meal does not have to be boring. Why not jazz up your snack by using Ole Xtreme Wellness Tortillas. You will find Ole Low Carb, Ole Fat Free, Ole Xtreme Spinach & Herb, Ole Tomato & Basil and Ole Whole Wheat Tortillas in your local grocery store or online.

From Recipes

Tomato Basil Spinach Tortilla Wrap

(71 calories per wrap)

Ingredients:

  • 2 - Tortilla Wraps - Ole Xtreme Wellness Tomato Basil(5 carbs each)
  • 1 cup - Baby Spinach(< 2 carbs)
  • 1 TBSP - Jalapeno Slices (< 1 carb)
  • 1/4 cup or more of Shredded Cheddar Cheese(2 carbs)
  • Opt. Italian Rose Fresh Salsa(<2 carbs)
I used my George Foreman Quesadilla Maker to create this recipe but you can use a regular non-stick skillet. Begin by laying one tortilla wrap on the quesadilla maker and layer the baby spinach, diced jalapenos, and sprinkle the cheese of your choice on top. Add the final tortilla wrap and heat until lightly brown. Place the tortilla in a plate and slice it with a pizza cutter. Serve with your favorite salsa. (This recipe can be cut in half if you prefer by using only one tortilla wrap.)

This recipe is under 20 carbohydrates.
