Taking time to be kind often leads to unexpected gifts” - Bill Harley

Coming this September 14th, 2010 - The Best Candy in the Whole World and other stories by gifted singer/songwriter, storyteller, educator, author and playwright Bill Harley.  He has two Grammy awards: Blah, Blah, Blah: Stories about Clams, Swamp Monsters, Pirates & Dogs and Yes to Running: Bill Harley Live. He received  the Green Earth Book Award for his book called Between Home and School. In October, Bill  will receive  a Lifetime Achievement Award from the Rhode Island Council for Humanities. He won the Magic Penny Award from Children’s Music Network and many more awards. What an honor!

The Best Candy in the Whole World and other stories by Bill Harley contains stories and some music. His stories are magical and witty. Go along as Bill takes you on a journey filled with stories like Sillier Than You, Jack and the Singing Leaves, The Boy Who Hid in a Peanut, A Walk Around the Block and The Best Candy in the Whole World.  There is over an hour of good clean entertainment for both parent and child.

We enjoyed listening to the whole CD. The Boy Who Hid in a Peanut is similar to There was an Old Lady Who Swallowed a Fly.  Jack and the Singing Leaves is my second favorite and it is similar to the story of Cinderella with a twist.

Oh, the ways we can help with our hands!

Max Lucado is a popular Christian author  and minister that is well loved by many. He not only writes books for adults but has many titles written especially for children. You maybe familiar with his Hermie books and video series. Gaby Hansen shares her talents in illustrating the delightful story of One Hand,Two Hands written by Max Lucado. This story teaches our children the importance of helping and serving others.

The main character of the story is a young girl that imagines her toys have come to life. She goes about the day teaching them the importance of using hands in a positive and helpful manner. The story ends with a rhyming prayer of thanks to God. Also, there is a review listed in three categories:  helping hands, kind hands and loving hands. There are many examples like feeding a pet, sharing a snack with a friend, hugging mommy and daddy, waving to a friend and many others.

This story is great for sharing with young children at home, church or school.

The Berenstain Bears and the Gift of Courage by Jan and Mike Berenstain

712560: Berenstain Bears and The Gift of Courage Berenstain Bears and The Gift of Courage

By Zonderkidz
SRP: $3.99

Brother and Sister Bear wonder if they can be as brave as David when he fought Goliath. They find out when they face Too-Tall Grizzly and his gang.

Coming October 2010

Since 1962, Jan and Stan Berenstain have been sharing delightful stories with our children. Their son, Mike Berenstain has followed in their footsteps continuing the tradition of sharing the Berenstain Bear family with children in the new Living Lights Series published by Zonderkidz. Each book teaches how children should live for God on a daily basis. You can learn more lessons from the Bible with stories like The Berenstain Bears and the Golden Rule, The Berenstain Bears Give Thanks, The Berenstain Bears Love Their Neighbors and many others.

In The Berenstain Bears and the Gift of Courage by Jan and Mike Berenstain,  Brother and Sister Bear learn a valuable lesson about courage based on 2 Chronicles 19:11. Too-Tall Grizzly and his gang are bullying the kids at Bear Country School. Sister Bear does not know how to deal with their teasing and harassment. After Papa Bear reads the Bible story of David and Goliath, both Brother and Sister Bear learn to apply the lessons of bravery and courage to help conquer Too-Tall Grizzly and his gang of ruffians.

This book is an easy-to-read or read-to-me book geared towards ages 4 to 7. My four-year-old daughter has enjoyed listening to this story many times now. We like that the story ends with follow-up questions, fun activities and crafts.

For more information visit The Berenstain Bears or Zonderkidz.com.

Today, we begin homeschool for 2010. Summer is our youngest at four years old and she is beginning kindergarten. Tara will be new to high school. Fawn is in her final year at grade twelve.

Also, we are visiting a new church and hope the girls connect well with the youth. We would appreciate your prayers for both school and church.

Our grandson, Gabe, might be coming for a visit and I hope to teach him preschool. He is just three-years-old. We have been praying that his mom brings him soon.
