My Thoughts

My family and  I have always been fans of Scholastic. We have been homeschooling ever since 1989 and we have included many products from Scholastic in our curriculum and homeschool library. Now, we can enjoy the read-along series by Scholatic Storybook Treasures.

My four-year-old enjoys watching and listening to "The Wheels on the Bus" DVD's and CD. Included in this kit is a 34 page activity book with mazes, matching, dot-to-dots and more. This is a wonderful product to include over the summer vacation. Travel can be boring for the little ones and the Sing-Along Travel Kit will make long or short trips more fun. The whole family can get in on the fun with the fun songs like "The Wheels on the Bus", "Dem Bones", "He's Got the Whole World in His Hands" and many other fantastic songs.

This past month we went to the mountains and rented a home on the lake. I would have loved to have the travel kit for the more quieter moments on our vacation, especially when it rained.

Meet the Instruments!
Clap and Tap

“Phenomenally talented duo...singing and musicianship are flawless.” Time Out NY Kids

Grammy Award winners, Cathy Fink and Marcy Marxer make up one very talented duo. They have spent over thirty years performing and teaching young children about music and instruments. We are happy to share with our readers their new DVD series called Meet the Instruments! that introduces children to the joy of musical instruments. "Clap and Tap" and "Things with Strings" are geared towards children ages 2 to 6.

My four-year-old daughter and I enjoyed watching and participating in each of the Meet the Instrument! programs. The Clap and Tap DVD brought back memories of my childhood from when I was taking ballet and tap. They use tap dancing in one of the segments. In Things with Strings your child will learn fun little tips about each of the instruments and much more. Did you know that many of the instruments have ears, necks and other body parts similar to our own?

Cathy and Marcy have a wonderful way of engaging their audience. You and your child can interact by singing, clapping, and playing imaginary instruments right along with them. I believe the Meet the Instruments! Series would make for a great addition to any home. Homeschoolers could use the series as mini-unit studies. Also, the series would be useful in day cares or church programs that wish to teach small children to appreciate musical instruments in a simple and fun manner.

Also, I encourage you to visit the shop. They have many other DVDs in their collection. Have you ever wanted to learn to yodel?

Both Clap and Tap and Things with Strings are available online from Cathy & Marcy's Song Shop. I even found some sold at CD Baby. Visit www.cathymarcy.com for more information, specials and updates about Cathy and Marcy.

Our Family Vacation 2010

 Our Family Vacation

Just last week my family and I ventured to the North Georgia mountains for our first vacation of the year. We rented a home on Lake Hartwell(Third Largest Army Corp Lake in Nation) in Hart County, Georgia for nearly a week. We spent most of those days fishing on the dock or out on our fishing boat. We enjoyed trying a few of the local restaurants in Hartwell, GA. We especially enjoyed Kobe Express Japanese Cuisine and the popular Backstreet Bar-B-Q. Next time we plan to visit the dam.

If you wish to take a peak at the home we rented you can visit VRBO the Home Away. (Pet Friendly) Pssst... Tell them Janet Carter sent ya! :)

Aloha Friday #135

Aloha Friday #135

This is my first attempt at participating in the Aloha Friday featured at An Island Life by Kailani.

Question for today: If someone asked you for a book recommendation, what would you suggest and why?

I would like to suggest the book I am currently reading, A Woman's Walk in Grace: God's Pathway to Spiritual Growth by Catherine Martin. (Reading it for First Wild Card Tour) Why? I have thoroughly enjoyed learning more about how to have a closer relationship with my Savior Jesus Christ. She is very good at sharing God's word through scripture and the testimonies of many other born again believers.

 Thank you,
