Motor Oil Matters - $35 Jiffy Lube Giveaway

Motor Oil Matters: MyBlogSparkTM Giveaway
www.motoroilmatters.org

April is National Car Care and National Informed Women Month. And to help celebrate MyBlogSpark along with Motor Oil Matters and Shell Lubricants is sponsoring  a most wonderful and valuable giveaway of $35 Jiffy Lube Gift Card to use on your next trip to get your oil changed.

I participated in the Motor Oil Matters: Mom Knows Best Game. I am not boasting but I scored 100%. I hope you will participate by taking this short quiz which contains only seven questions. The website is full of helpful tips and suggestions. Does it matter if I change my oil? And how often should I change it are two of several questions you can find answers to at "Matters of Fact".  I always wondered what the letter "W" meant in motor oil names.

I look forward to using my Jiffy Lube Gift Card for my old Buick. I am sure one of my readers would like to win a $35 Jiffy Lube card to use on their next trip to get their oil changed. Find a Jiffy Lube location near you: http://www.jiffylube.com/findlocation/storelocator.aspx While visiting Jiffy Lube online, why not check out their specials?

I also want to mention a valuable automotive website called AskPatty.com(Automotive Advice for Women). This website is geared toward educating women. They are also found on social media sites like Facebook, Twitter and many more.

Winner: Amanda winnieayala/yahoo/com

This contest is open until Saturday, May 01, 2010 at 11:59 PM EST. USA only. MyBlogSparkTM is sponsoring this giveaway and will be responsible for shipping the prize to our winner. Thank you.

eat the cookie ... buy the shoes: Giving Yourself Permission To Lighten Up by Joyce Meyer

Eat the Cookie...Buy the Shoes: Giving Yourself Permission to Lighten Up by Joyce Meyer
    Category: RELIGION
    Format: HARDCOVER BOOK
    Publish Date: 4/13/2010
    Price: $19.99/$24.99
    ISBN: 9780446538640
    Pages: 208

    About the Book
Engrained in our culture is the belief that unbending discipline is the only sure way to success. You must go to the gym five times a week, never order the dessert, and don't even think about buying that dress you keep staring at in the store window. Breaking from such a regimented lifestyle is a sign of weakness, right? Wrong!-and Joyce wants to tell us why...

Though setting rules in our lives are important, it's just as important that we break them from time-to-time. Structure is a powerful tool, but when diverging from your own goals is seen as catastrophic, it can have a hugely negative effect on us. Balance is a core value in life and every once in awhile we deserve to indulge in a guilty pleasure or two. So don't feel bad about straying from your goals every once-in-awhile and in fact, embrace it: eat the cookie and buy the shoes!

    My Thoughts
I am the first to tell you that I often struggle with indulging myself. I try to be sensible or frugal. An example: When visiting Savannah, GA I would love to eat at Paula Deen's famous restaurant, Lady and Sons, but I talk myself out of it. I begin by saying it's too expensive or I could spend the money on something more important.

I got excited when I read the slip cover from back of the book. I wanted to learn more about feeling free to celebrate or indulge myself from time to time without feeling guilty. Too often, churches fail to share with us the celebrations in the Bible. And if God was for it all then I want to read the proof.

What do you think? Should we be miserable and deprive ourselves of things like a simple chocolate chip cookie? Are we hurting anyone by doing so? Is this a sin? A mere cookies does seem like a simple thing to indulge ourselves with; but a beautiful pair of shoes is another thing. What about a trip to Europe? Giggle.

I welcome you to browse her book from the Open Book widget posted above.  Is this a book that you would like to sink your teeth into?

You can find Joyce Meyer on social media avenues like Facebook and Twitter.

Win a copy! To enter, leave a comment telling us something that you would like to indulge in that you feel guilty about doing.(If this is a personal question that you wish to not answer, just leave a comment about her book.) Please remember to include your email address in the main post. Ex. gahome2mom[at]gmail[dot]com

    Drying Apples & Bananas

     Drying Apples & Bananas

    From Recipes

My family and I enjoy eating various dried fruits like apples and bananas. We purchased the Harvest Maid Food Dehydrator by American Harvest back in 1985 and it still does a great job. It is somewhat yellow and faded but it still works well. I mislaid my instruction booklet for it so I began searching online to find out how long to dry fruits and at what temperatures.

You can find many helpful websites online to help educate in the art of drying fruits and vegetables. Whether you like eating dried fruits as a quick snack or using them in recipes, I would like to suggest using a dehydrator or one of the more economical approaches; the outdoor drying rack or the indoor oven. (See UGA link for more information about outdoor drying & the solar method)

Each dehydrator has different settings. I used 140 degrees for the apple and banana setting. The fruits will take from 12 to 24 hrs to dry using the dehydrator.(See photo above) You should check frequently as to not over dry or under dry your produce.

    Resources:

We hope you have fun drying your own fruits and vegetables.

    Thank you,
